It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marian Jean Benzing (McCrary), 82, in Charlottesville, Virginia on Tuesday, February 10, 2025. A devoted mother, teacher, and lover of the arts, Marian left an enduring and meaningful legacy.

Born January 19, 1943 in Chicago Illinois, she was the daughter of the late AP McCrary and Beatrice McCrary (Henderson).

She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Caroline, Elizabeth and Madeleine; and her grandchildren, Olivia, Eva, Lila, Roxanne and Geordi.

Those who knew Marian knew her to be a woman of remarkable love, humor, and complexity. She was both fierce and gentle, both light and shadow, but it was precisely these qualities that made her so unforgettable. Her impact on those who met her was profound, as she offered wisdom, warmth, a good laugh, and a unique perspective that challenged and enriched the lives of all who crossed her path.

Her infectious sense of humor and sparkling wit were treasured by all who knew her. She had a rare gift for making people feel at ease, and her laughter was a constant reminder of the beauty and joy that exists in even the most challenging of times.

Above all, Marian was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and her husband Robert shared a deep, unbreakable bond. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and shared dreams. To her children and grandchildren, she was both a pillar of strength and wisdom. She taught them the importance of standing up for what is right, of loving deeply, and of creating beauty in the world. Her legacy lives on through them, and her love will continue to guide them for generations to come.

Marian was a dynamic woman who made an impact not only in the world around her but in the hearts of everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of courage, creativity, and love, qualities that will continue to inspire and guide those she leaves behind.
