Marjorie Christine Mahanes

December 11, 1938 - January 21, 2024

Marjorie Christine Bosserman Mahanes, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at The Meadows of Stuarts Draft Retirement Community.

Mrs. Mahanes was born in Staunton, Va. on December 11, 1938 daughter of the late A.D. Bosserman and Jennie Lee Davis Bosserman.

Marjorie was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson Memorial High School. She had a distinguished career of federal civilian service starting with the Health, Education and Welfare Administration and later with the Department of Army at the Foreign Science and Technology Center now known as NGIC.

Marjorie was an active, long-term member of Olivet Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and was a member of various communities. She also served as treasurer of the church during a period of growth. One of her greatest joys in life was spending quality time with her family and friends. She especially loved activities on the Chesapeake Bay and waters surrounding her home on Gwynn’s Island in Matthews County.

Marjorie was married to the late David Lee Mahanes for 51 years. She is survived by a son, David Lee Mahanes II. and his wife Ok of Hampton, Va. Also surviving are a sister and a brother, Judith Bosserman Hostetter and Gary D. Bosserman of Waynesboro, Va; two grandchildren, David Lee Mahanes III. and Caitlin Mahanes Winn and husband Joseph and great grandchildren, Sanders Lee and Shea Mackenzie. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Jean M. Pace and her husband, Walter; brother-in-law, Clifford B. Mahanes along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024 in the Olivet Presbyterian Church with Rev. Seth Lovell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home, Charlottesville. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the ceremony on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Olivet Presbyterian Church, 2575 Garth Rd., Charlottesville, VA 22901.
