Mary Effie Fox Critzer
Mary Effie Critzer, age 90, of Afton, Virginia passed away on Saturday morning the 13th of January 2024 at the Heritage Inn Assisted Living Facility in Charlottesville. Effie was born on July 22, 1933 in Afton, Viriginia. She was the daughter of James Henry Fox and Mary Eva Critzer Fox of Afton.
Effie was married to David N. Critzer for almost sixty years until his passing in 2007. Together they raised three children, Dave C. Critzer (wife Penelope) of Waynesboro, Darlene Critzer Morris (husband Dan) of Ruckersville and Dinah Critzer Small (husband Rudolph) of Nellysford.
Effie was a tireless and dedicated mother, textile factory worker and friend to all in her church and community. She was a great seamstress, cook and made custom jewelry. In her later years, she loved to read, watch old westerns on TV, knit, work puzzles and color. She was an active member of Rodes United Methodist Church, supporting their women’s programs, especially the annual Lord’s Acre Sale with her donations of handmade jewelry. She will be greatly missed by all her close friends, especially Carol Critzer and Bea Sheffield.
In addition to her three children, she is survived by four grandchildren; Chris Critzer, Alan Morris, David Morris and Jaime Small, and six great grandchildren; Logan Critzer, Drake Morris, Brock Morris, Greyson Critzer, Abigal Morris and Flynn Morris, and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband David N. Critzer, her sister Louise, and four brothers; Leslie, Harry, Robert, and Ray.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, VA. Family visitation will be held in the Rodes Church Social Hall, 286 Avon Rd, Afton, VA at 11 o’clock on 23 January 2024, followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
