Mollie Cooper Turner                                  February 19, 2025 Deaconess Mollie Cooper Turner transitioned to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born in Orange, VA on March 31, 1935, to the late Helen Braxton Cooper Nichols and Edward Thomas Cooper. She received her education at George Washington Carver School in Rapidan, VA. Mollie was employed by American Woodmark for 22 years and worked as a housekeeper for many families in the community.
Mollie accepted the Lord at an early age at Emanuel Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for 80 years. She wore many hats at Emanuel, including Deaconess, Church Clerk for 30 years, Sunday School teacher, a member of the Culinary Committee, Senior Choir, Eveready Missionary Circle, Church Aid Club, and Church Custodian. Mollie loved Emanuel, her Pastors, First Ladies and all the members. She also served as Secretary for the Westview Cemetery Association.

She had a passion for gardening, vegetables and flowers. She was an excellent cook and was known for her delicious potato salad, macaroni and cheese and many other dishes. She had an immense affection for her entire family, especially her great-great grandchildren. They loved climbing in her rocking chair to sit beside her. She was considered a mother, grandmother and friend to many people in the community.  

Mollie was preceded in death by her husband, William “Sonny” Turner; sons Eugene and Michael; sister, Mary “Pook” Lindsay; brothers, Herbert Cooper, Samuel Edward Cooper and John Cooper; and son-in-law, Reuben Jones (Kim).

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kim Jones of Charlottesville, VA; sons, William “Tracy” Turner, Tyrone Turner (Myrtle) of Orange, VA and Thomas Turner, of Helsinki, Finland; grandchildren, Rodney Lewis (Vicky), Rodney Turner, Tracy Turner Shelton (Kerry), Deanna Turner-Brock (Eric), Brittny Turner, Nikki Turner, Reuben Anthony Jones (Samantha), Colin Turner, Dr. Jasmyn Jones, Juwan Jones, Thea Turner, and Markus Turner; great-grandchildren, Ashley Shelton, Kevin Shelton, DeYonte’ Turner, Sr. (Tiffany), Rodney Lewis, Landon Yowell, Elijah Lewis, Sabrina Lewis, and Jasper Chapman; great-great grandchildren, DeYonte’ “DJ” Turner, Jr., Tatiannah Turner, DaVionne Turner, Trinity Turner, and Daniel Turner; devoted friend Deacon Fleming Shelton, as well as forever daughters-in-law Becky Turner, Deborah Turner, Dr. Donavan Branche, Mary Harris, and Maria Turner. Brothers-in-law, Gilbert Turner (Tresa), Charles Turner (Loyonne), Eric Turner, Sr. (Peggy); sisters-in-law, Anne Cooper, Astorie, Acty, Letitia Nancy Monroe, Jean Barber; and a host of special nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Emanuel Baptist Church with Reverend John Saunders officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery after the service. Preddy Funeral Home in Orange assisted the family with arrangements.
