Penelope Ruth Sprouse

April 26, 2021 - May 5, 2024

Charlottesville -

Penelope Ruth Sprouse, age 3, of Staunton, peacefully departed her earthly body while surrounded by her immediate family, in her mother's arms, and joyfully entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on May 5, 2024 at UVA Medical Center.

Penelope was born April 26, 2021 at UVA Medical Center and diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and a rare immune system disorder known as G6PC3 neutropenia. Despite the significant medical challenges she faced since birth, Penelope, known as “Poppy” by many, always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She loved Bluey, Coca-Cola, worshipping the Lord through music, anything to do with the ocean, putting puzzles together, coloring and painting, being pushed on her tricycle, playing kitchen, and throwing the ball with her big sister. Penelope brought joy into the world, and inspired many with her strength and will to live. She had a smile that could truly light up the darkest of rooms. In her short life, she impacted everyone she met, and her strength, happiness, and easy laugh will be remembered.

Penelope is survived by her mom, Rachel Sprouse of Staunton, dad, William Sprouse of Craigsville, doting big sister, Eleanor, and half-sister, Evie. She is survived by grandparents, Joann Wolfe, Amanda and John Glover, Christina Sprouse, and Timothy Sprouse, and great grandparents, Joan and Arlie Wolfe, and Fred Sprouse. Penelope is also survived by several special uncles and aunts, Jacob Glover (and wife Courtney), Andrew Fields (and wife Trinity), Jasper Glover, and Amber Sprouse plus many cousins and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by great grandparents Margaret and Bobby Wikel, Bill Glover, Geraldine Sprouse, and Sherry Hite. The family wishes to thank the skilled and dedicated doctors and nurses at UVA Medical Center, Continuum Home Health, and Infant Toddler Connection for their care, love, and affection for Penelope over the course of her life.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 3pm at Valley Covenant Church, in Waynesboro.  There will be a reception and time for fellowship following the service.  Those wishing to contribute towards Penelope’s services and/or in her memory can do so through Cashapp-$rachelnsprouse, Venmo-@rachelnsprouse, or PayPal-rachelnglover@gmail.com
