Ramona Dale Chapman

Ramona Dale Byers Chapman, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 31, 2024 at Aviva Baldwin Park, Well Springs Village in Staunton, Virginia.

Dale was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia on February 25, 1933 and resided in Waynesboro, Virginia for 60 years. She was born to the late James B. and the late Catherine Layman Byers of Harrisonburg.

Dale graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1950. She retired from the Augusta County School Board after 20 years of service in 1990. She was an active member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren and a long time member of the Delphia Wright Circle.

She was married to her high school sweetheart for 69 years, the late Ward G. Chapman, Jr. whom passed away in September 2023.

Dale is survived by her two sons Michael W. Chapman and his wife Brenda of Baker, West Virginia and Jon P. Chapman and his wife Shirley of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Benjamin P. Chapman (Sommer) of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, Kaitlyn M. Chapman (Tre) of Scottsville, Virginia; one great granddaughter, Amelia Grace; brother, James B. Byers Jr. of Denver Colorado; brother in law, Richard L. Chapman and his wife Cathy of Port Republic, Virginia and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers Wallace F. Byers and Robert H. Byers; sister, Shirley Byers Hensley.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 8, 2024 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg, Virginia officiated by Pastor E.B. Shoemaker. 

The family would like to thank the Wells Spring Village memory care staff and Legacy Hospice for the excellent care provided to their Mom.
