Ray Paul Lafferty
Ray Paul Lafferty, 88, of Waynesboro, Virginia, went to be with the Lord September 29, 2024.
He was born April 18,1936 in Waynesboro, Virginia to the late Charles E. Lafferty and Ina Virginia Downs Lafferty.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Mae Sheets Lafferty; by his sister, Francis Burns; by his 3 brothers, Leo Lafferty Sr, James Lafferty and Wallace Lafferty; and by his daughter-in-law, Carol Morgal Lafferty.
Ray is survived by his two sons, Gary Lafferty of Palmyra and Michael Lafferty of Staunton; by seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; by sisters-in-law, Jackie Armstrong and Jo Ann Sheets; by brother-in-law, Richard Bibb; and by a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Ray was a good athlete from his youth. He played baseball and softball in his earlier years and enjoyed playing golf in his later years. Ray was well known in the community as a quality master electrician who exhibited kindness and integrity. From a very young age until his retirement, Ray worked at his family’s electrical contractor business, Lafferty & Sons. He retired with nearly 50 years of service. Ray was also known as a man of faith, a servant leader, who used his gifts and talents to serve the church in many capacities. He was a faithful member of the Waynesboro Second Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2 at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Ray will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 3 at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, followed by a brief graveside service at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro. Rev. Dr. Amy Fetterman will officiate.
