A Time to be Born

Robert Lee Brock was born on November 11, 1947, to the late Burrell Brock Jr. and Dorothy Mae Brock in Barboursville, VA.

A Time to Love and Live

Deacon Robert Brock was married to the late Deaconess Phyllis Jean Carey Brock on May 13, 1972. God Blessed their union with two sons: Robert (Bobby) D. Brock Jr. of Richmond, VA, and Brandon T. Brock of Ruckersville, VA. Robert and Phyllis lived a beautiful life and raised their sons to stand strong in their beliefs, remain respectful of others, love God and appreciate family.

A Time to Serve

Robert wore many hats during his lifetime. He was employed with Webster Brick Co., did midnight deliveries for the local pharmacy, worked security for the Federal Reserve Bank, was head custodian for Gordon Barbour and Orange Elementary School and he did part time bartending for multiple events in Orange County. He retired from the Orange County School System working as a mail delivery driver for several of the local schools. He enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, growing his own crops, cooking, music (favorites were Aretha Franklin and James Cleveland) and he loved watching his favorite football team the Commanders, “aka Washington Redskins”. One of the things Robert was very passionate about was his love of family and friends. He loved family gatherings and before he fell ill, he would host events in his home every chance he could. Most of all he loved his siblings and enjoyed encouraging their hearts and sharing many laughs.

Deacon Brock joined Blue Run Baptist Church at an early age and faithfully served on the Deacon board, the men’s choir, and senior choir. He kept Blue Run near and dear to his heart and worked hard to contribute to maintain its church standards.

A Time to Die

Deacon Brock peacefully entered his eternal rest at his home on Sunday September 10, 2023. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis Brock; father and mother, Burrell and Dorothy Mae Brock; two sisters, Gail Lindsay and Doris Snead; two brothers, Burrell (Junior) Brock III and Fred Brock; mother-in-law, Gladys Carey; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Carey.

A Time to Mourn

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Bobby Brock of Richmond, VA, and Brandon (Tricia) Brock of Ruckersville, VA; two sisters, Mary Richardson of Orange, VA, and Joyce Jackson of Suitland, MD; three grandsons, Brandon Jr, Elijah and Hunter; four sisters-in-law, Jaqueline (Jeff) Johnson, Lorraine (Quinton) Brock, Eva (George) Beckett, and Maude Jefferies; two brothers-in-laws, David Carey and Lorenzo (Kim) Carey; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Robert is fondly remembered for his kindness, faithfulness, his dedication to God and his love of his family. He was a people person and caring by nature. He would give his time and energy to anyone in need. Often, he would say “God always has a ram in the bush.” Deacon Brock remained strong while dealing with several health issues. He would find a reason to laugh and smile through his pain. Whatever life presented to him he would take it in stride and push through each hurdle. He would sit quietly watching the birds that frequently visited his front door or listen to gospel music to cope with whatever was going on. At any given time, he would remind people of his favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things though Christ which strengthens me.”

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Blue Run Baptist Church, 7435 Constitution Highway (Rt 20), Somerset, VA, with interment to follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
