Ronald Dean Williams

February 5, 1955 - February 15, 2025

Ronald (Ron) passed away suddenly at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, on February 15, 2025. He was born on February 5, 1955, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Albany Benjamin Williams and Annie Blanche Morrison Williams. He grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, and earned his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from UVA, followed by his Ph.D. from MIT.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, William Dorsey Williams. He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 45 years, Lorraine Williams; his daughters, Emily Williams and Andrea Williams; and his son, Ryan Williams. He is also survived by his stepsisters, Mildred (John) and Marie (Larry), his stepbrother, Winston (Anita), and many extended family members.

Ron was a dedicated educator and was on the faculty at the UVA School of Engineering until his retirement. He loved teaching, and many of his students stayed in touch with him long after leaving the university. Over the years, he even had the privilege of teaching the children of former students.

He was a life member of IEEE and the Computer Society for over 40 years, making significant contributions to the field. He held 44 volunteer roles throughout his lifetime, including several board positions.

Ron was also a life member of the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, where he served as a medic, crew captain, and board member.

Above all, he loved and cherished his family.

A visitation for Ron will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Teague Funeral Service, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903. This will be followed by a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Monticello Memory Gardens, 670 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
