Sandra Charlotte Russell

Sandra “Sandy” Charlotte Russell, 88, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024 in Fishersville, VA.
Sandy was born July 8, 1935, in Evanston, Illinois to the late Paul Bert Russell Sr. and Ruth Hunter Russell.

Sandy leaves to cherish her three daughters Janet Dooley, Nancy Russell Skaryak, Karen Shifflett (Clayton); Brothers, Dr. John H. Russell (Connie), Paul B. Russell Jr., and Munro C. Russell; grandchildren, Dr. Guy Dooley IV, Emma Dooley Johnson, Jead Shifflett, Charlotte Shifflett, Hunter Skaryak, and 2 great grandchildren, Guy Dooley V and Oli Johnson.

Sandy had an idyllic childhood growing up in Yorktown Heights, NY and would love to share her stories. She attended Endicott Jr College in Beverly, MA and graduated from Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg, PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, Free Union Home Extension Club, Farmington Country Club, Co-Leader of T.O.P.S. , Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society, Red Hat Society, and the Senior Center.

Sandy was a homemaker, and retired from American Lung Association, after retirement she was very active. She loved to travel, her trips took her abroad often hiking, exploring the countryside in many countries, some of her favorites were New Zealand, Switzerland, and Italy. Sandy loved to go beagling with the Farmington Hunt Club. She loved to volunteer, giving a helping hand to those in need.

The family would like to thank all of those who have taken care of her, especially the Hospice team who took care of her in her final days.

A graveside service for Sandy will be on Wednesday May 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Monticello Memory Gardens, 670 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, VA.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA 3355 Berkmar Dr., Charlottesville, VA 22901, Make a Wish Foundation, and/or Hospice of the Shenandoah.
