Sylvia Boston

May 25, 1947 - May 16, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Sylvia Boston on May 16, 2026, at home in Orange, Virginia, surrounded by her loving family. Sylvia, who was born on May 25, 1947, lived a life brimming with love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to both family and community. After a courageous battle with Lewy body dementia, she left this world comforted by those who loved her most.

Sylvia was the beloved daughter of the late Hugh and Cornelia Goodwin and shared her childhood with her brothers, Hugh, Phil, and Eric, who all predeceased her. Her beloved partner, Jim Livingston, also predeceased her, but she is now reunited with him in peace. Sylvia is survived by her cherished sisters, Sara Matthews, Connie Whitcomb, and Ginny Haney, who will forever hold her memory close in their hearts.

Sylvia's life, beginning with her graduation from Orange County High School. She went on to dedicate her professional life to serving as an administrative assistant in the juvenile domestic relations field, where her compassion and attention to detail touched countless lives. Sylvia was a longtime member of the Rhoadesville Baptist Church, where she found profound joy and spiritual fulfillment. She was also an active member of the Ruritans Club, where she made lifelong friendships and contributed to her community's well-being. A woman of profound warmth, Sylvia never met a stranger and delighted in conversations with everyone she encountered. Her love for animals was unmatched, as was her dedication to supporting numerous animal welfare organizations throughout her life.

Sylvia's passion for nurturing life extended to her beautiful flower gardens, a testament to her upbringing on a dairy farm in Gordonsville. Her green thumb and love for animals were hallmarks of her generous spirit. Sylvia's legacy continues through her devoted son, John Cooper, and his wife, Nichole. Her grandchildren, Billy, Rachel, and Harley Cooper, were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She is also survived by her dear friends, Wanda and Retta, who stood by her through thick and thin, and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Generations Central for their unwavering support and care during Sylvia's final months. The organization gave Sylvia a sense of purpose and independence that was deeply cherished. Special thanks to Carolyn, Teresa, and Brooklyn for their compassionate service, and to the hospice staff for their guidance through Sylvia's final weeks.

A service to celebrate Sylvia's remarkable life will be held on May 31, 2026, at 12:30 PM at the Rhoadesville Baptist Church, located at 26042 Lafayette Dr, Rhoadesville, VA 22542. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Generations Central in Sylvia's memory, honoring her commitment to a cause she held dear.

As we bid farewell to Sylvia, we remember her not with tears of sorrow, but with smiles of gratitude for the love and kindness she shared so generously. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us to live each day with compassion and an open heart, just as she did
