Sylvia Knight

SYLVIA ANNE HENSLEY KNIGHT

Died March 14, 2025

Sylvia was the first daughter born to Alex and Grace Hensley who are both now

deceased. She is survived by a brother Eugene Hensley from Marshall, VA. She had three

sisters, Gladys Utsinger from Arlington, TX, Ellen Lunsford from Gainesville, VA, Joan

Brookover from Live Oak, FL. Her brother Gordon Hensley from Pocomoke City, MD,

preceded her in death.

Sylvia grew up in a poor family. Her father was a farmer until he was hurt then he worked

as a car mechanic. Her mom baby-sat and sewed clothes for the girls and for other people for

money. The family often ate vegetables from the garden.

On August 12, 1961 Sylvia was wedded to Melvin Knight. They lived happily for 63 years.

Their favorite vacation spot was Pigeon Forge, TN.

In August 2019, Sylvia suffered a damaging stroke. Her health declined so they moved to an

assisted living facility apartment in July 2022.

Sylvia was always sweet, kind, and loving and we will all miss her.
