Thelma Brickhead Thurman

Thelma Birckhead Thurman, 79, of Troy, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 in her home.

Born on February 6, 1944 in Earlysville, she was the daughter of the late Aulton James Birckhead and Margaret Shifflett Birckhead. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Rosser Thurman Jr. and her brothers, Aubrey Birckhead and Robert Birckhead.

Thelma is survived by her son, Clarence “Keith” Thurman (Marci), and granddaughter Emily Aurora Thurman of Troy; one brother, Bobby Lee Birckhead; a nephew, Bobby Lee Birckhead Jr. and a very special niece, Teresa Birckhead Bryant, all of Earlysville.

Thelma retired from Comdial, previously known as Strongburg-Carlson. She was an avid member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed her retirement years on the farm in Troy.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Vickie Donohue for all her help as a caregiver to Thelma. We would also like to thank our neighbors and close friends who helped with Thelma’s care over the last year.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 15, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Holly Memorial Gardens.
