Thomas Jefferson Shifflett

Thomas Jefferson Shifflett (92) passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2023. He was born on the 4th of July in 1931 to the late Minnie Lee and John Allen Shifflett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Marjorie Batten Shifflett; his daughter, Caroline Marie Curtis; his great-grandaughter, Rylan Elizabeth Nicole Lay; and his sister, Nona Mae Walton.

He is survived by his daughters, Gloria McCauley (Marvin) and Beverly Funk (Berlin); his grandaughters, Ashley McCauley, Kimberly Daughtery and Brittany Funk; his grandsons, Ryan McCauley, Logan Funk, Justin Henke, A.J. Vernon and Brandon Curtis; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Thomas had bright blue eyes and a contagious smile. And he never met a stranger. He was not one to shy away from hard work and was a jack of all trades. He worked in logging but mostly was busy in the orchards at Carter Mountain and then Graves Mountain. He enjoyed playing the guitar, banjo & harmonica and listening to bluegrass. He was an avid animal lover and rehabilitated many.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at 4pm at Hill & Wood Funeral Home's Chapel in Ruckersville.
