It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Walter Franklin Barfield, who left us on May 22, 2024, after living a full and wonderful life. Walter is survived by his beautiful wife, Diana Barfield; sons, Timothy (Mary) Barfield, Kevin (Beth) Barfield; stepdaughters Julia (Ryan) Hubbard, Kathryn (David) Vasil; and grandchildren, Marissa, Allison, Nicholas, Michael, Brandon, Cody, Allie, Emily, Denny, Jacob, Ben, Logan & Claire.
Born in Albany, GA, he grew up splitting his time between Jacksonville, FL, and Moultrie, GA. After completing Andrew Jackson High School, he went on to serve in the Florida National Guard and United States Army retiring with honors after 32 years. Continuing his passion for service he worked with the TSA/Homeland Security in the capacity of K9 Coordinator for the explosive’s interdiction team in Florida for local airports and mass transit facilities. He and Diana relocated to Virginia in 2004 where they enjoyed traveling, car shows and gardening.
To commemorate his life, a memorial service will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Preddy Funeral Home, 301 S. Main Street, Gordonsville, VA. There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. for friends and family to gather prior to the
service. We welcome all who knew him to join us in celebrating the life of a man who was loved deeply and will be missed.
