Walter Roland Kirkman
Walter was born in Bay Shore, L.I. NY on July 30, 1977. He spent his first few years living in West Sayville. After moving around to NJ, CT, and upstate NY, his final home was in Charlottesville, VA. He lived in Charlottesville with his mom Jeanmarie and close to his sister Christine, brother in law Fred, his nephew Liam, and nieces Olivia and Melanie. Walter faced many challenges in his life, but he always continued on with a smile and love in his heart. He attended numerous special education schools and graduated from the BOCES program in NY in 1997.
During his lifetime, Walter had many different experiences which brought him joy and others around him felt that joy. He attended Special Olympics for Bocce. He and his brother attended a Giants game, he saw the Radio City Rockets and he loved being a spectator for various sporting events his siblings participated in. He was the biggest cheerleader for his brother who ran the Ironman. He has even participated in the Marine Marathon with Virginia Beach Team Hoyt. He was always game for a travel adventure via car or especially airplane. His helpfulness and guidance on trips was quite unique.
Walter’s family called him the Ever Ready Bunny. No matter what physical challenges he faced he just kept going. Walter had a great Christian faith. He also had a sense of humor that could have a room laughing. One of his favorite television shows was The Three Stooges. Walter’s other passions include Star Wars, especially Darth Vader and peanut M&Ms but Not the blues ones. Those he saved for his mom.
Walter left us peacefully with his Mom and sister Christine at his side. He will be missed by many family members and friends and is welcomed to his eternal resting place to be with his Grandparents and family.
A memorial service for Walter will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Teague Funeral Service, followed by a visitation from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
