Wanda Shaw Frederick                                February 24, 2025 Wanda Shaw Frederick, 75, of Gordonsville, Virginia, passed away at home on Monday, February 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on February 7, 1950, in Princeton, NJ, to the late Raymond Barker Shaw and Margaret Stackhouse Shaw. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Gary Frederick, and her sister Barbara Shaw.  Wanda moved with her family to Gordonsville, VA, at age six. She was lovingly raised by her father and mother on Inglewood Farm. She attended Louisa County schools and graduated from Stuart Circle Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1972. Wanda is survived by her children, Anthony, Christopher (Kat), and Benjamin; her grandchildren, Valin, Petra and Adi; her mother, Greta Shaw; and her siblings, Lorrie Pollard and David Shaw (Karen), along with many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was a devoted mother, raising her three independent and strong-willed boys, of whom she was very proud. Her love extended deeply to her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness. She also held a special place in her heart for her nieces, nephews and their children, embracing them with the same warmth and devotion. Her bond with her siblings was unwavering, and her adventurous spirit took her on many treasured trips with her sisters, creating memories filled with laughter and love.

Following Gary’s passing in 2013, Wanda returned to Gordonsville, to be closer to her siblings and mother. She had always loved growing up on a farm and dreamed of having a small farm of her own but settled for raising bunnies and chickens. A gifted gardener, Wanda could grow anything and found joy in filling her home and garden with all varieties of plants. She was creative at heart and always had a project or two going with making doll clothes, upcycled dresses, or writing children’s stories.

Wanda was full of compassion, loyalty, and generosity. She was a skilled nurse, dedicating her career to helping others in the hospital and caring for her loved ones with the same kindness and care. Her faith was strong, and she loved sharing God’s love with others. She taught Sunday School at Mechanicsville Baptist Church and remained devoted to her family and friends. If you needed a prayer, advice, or just a chat, she was always just a phone call away.

Wanda’s Celebration of Life is scheduled for 3pm on Saturday, March 15th, at the Mechanicsville Baptist Church in Gordonsville, VA.
