William "Billy" Leslie Proffit

William Leslie “Billy” Proffit, 91, passed away on January 4, 2024, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was born on May 4, 1932, in the Southwest mountains of Albemarle County where he was raised, farmed, and hunted. He was the son of Oscar Lee Proffit, Sr. and Rosabelle Davis Proffit. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar Lee Proffit, Jr., and Archie Lewis Proffit, Sr.; a sister, Frances Proffit Ryman; and a special friend, Bobby Lee Gibson.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Lasley Proffit; special “son,” Ronald Bradley Rhodes and his wife Bethanne; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Billy graduated from McIntire High School and retired as a building contractor. He served in the army for two years. His hobbies were hunting and farming.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Grace Episcopal Church, 5607 Gordonsville Rd., Keswick, VA 22947.
