William H. Christman

William “Bill” Christman, age 89, passed away on Friday, December 27th, 2024.  Bill was born on January 11, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. Bill married his childhood sweetheart, Alice and together they had three sons, John, Thomas and Gerard and resided in Gerritsen Beach, New York.  Bill retired from the New York Fire Department after 26 years and soon after moved to Stuarts Draft, Virginia.    Bill is a breast cancer survivor.  He had a mischievous grin. He loved a bargain and a good meal!  Bill was an active parishioner and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesboro, Virginia. Bill owned three homes over his lifetime and was skilled at most areas of home DIY craftmanship.  Throughout his life, he was a dedicated caregiver to our mother who had a myriad of health issues until her death in 2019.   Bill was an avid gardener of flowers but especially vegetables.  He took great joy in seeing pictures of and hearing about the latest stories of his three great grandchildren, Emily Rose, Madelyn Theresa and Liam Thomas.  
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Alice Jean Christman; his sister, Marianne Kapfer; and his brother, Frederick Christman.  Bill is survived by his oldest son, John, his wife, Diane, and their son, Nicholas and his wife Ashley; son, Thomas, his wife, Mary and children, Kathleen and husband John, Terrence and his wife, Jaime and Andrew; and son, Gerard, his wife, Audrey, stepchildren Amanda and Laura; and his nephews Donald, John, Stephen and Robert Kapfer. 
The family would like to thank the staff at the Regency Senior Living residence in Fishersville, Virginia for the compassionate care given to Bill during his stay.  The family would also like to recognize the incredible comfort care he received at Augusta Health Hospital in ICU from an angel disguised as a nurse named Christine.
