William "Larry" Shifflett

March 31, 1949 - November 5, 2023

William "Larry" Shifflett of Scottsville, Virginia, passed away on November 5th, 2023, at the age of 74 due to a respiratory disorder.

Larry was a graduate of the last senior class at Scottsville High School. He was also a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School, and the FBI Academy.

His family, which he considered his greatest gift, consists of his fiancée Carol Crowley; daughter Kimberly Shifflett; son Tim (Megan) Shifflett; and grandsons Henry, Tyler, and Dylan. His siblings include his brother Wayne (Becky) Shifflett; sisters Arlene (Mike) Apperson, Judy Garrett and partner Wes Harris, and Debra (David) Reed. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his goddaughter, Lorie Bostian.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Spradlin Shifflett, and his father, William Fred Shifflett.

Larry enjoyed outdoor sports, including hunting, fishing, playing ball, and golfing with Mike. He also had a passion for working in his yard, buying cars, riding motorcycles, and cutting trees. Larry requested that the flag on his coffin not only represent his service in the Army Reserves for four years and the FBI for 34 years but also honor all the men and women dedicated to protecting our safety and freedom in this country.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his family and friends who supported him during his struggle with this illness, especially appreciating their regular visits. He would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Sawyer.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to the New Bethel Methodist Church in Scottsville, Virginia, located in Woodridge, or to Gentiva Hospice.

A viewing for family and friends will be held at Hill and Wood Funeral Service, 201 1st Street North, Charlottesville, VA, on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 5-7 p.m., and the funeral will take place on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. A graveside service for family will be held at Monticello Memorial Gardens.

Following the funeral, a luncheon will be held for all at New Bethel Church in Woodridge.
