Chester Leon Wood

Chester Leon Wood, 70 of Gordonsville, died Sunday August 20, 2023 at the University of Virginia Hospital. Born November 16, 1952 in Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Curtis Tilman Wood and Irene Herring Wood. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Robin Snow Wood, a daughter, Brandy Nicole Wood, a son, Curtis Jameson "Jamie" Wood, his brother-in-law, Billy Blackwell, and sister-in-law, Lori Collier. Mr. Wood was retired from University of Virgina Facilities Management where he worked for many years. He was known to a lot of people as “Santa Claus”, from his years of serving as Santa at the mall in Charlottesville.

He is survived by his daughter, Gina Newman of Gordonsville, two brothers, David Wood (Wanda) of Free Union, Keith Wood (Pam) of Dyke, a sister, Debbie Blackwell of Free Union, a sister-in-law, Trudy Wyant (Timmy) of White Hall, two grandchildren, Lucien Newman, Kaleb Jenkins, his very dear to him nephew and two nieces, James Wyant, Angie Britton, Buffy Blackwell, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 25, 2023 at Evergreen Church of the Brethren with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday August 24, 2023 at Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville

The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of Virginia Medical Center for their unwavering care of Mr. Wood throughout his illness. As well as a special thank you to Hospice if the Piedmont.
