Miriam Orndorff Templeton

Miriam Orndorff Templeton went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, December 3, 2023, at the age of 97. She passed away in her home with her family and at peace with God.

She was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on September 26, 1926. Soon after, the family moved to western Maryland. She attended Frostburg State Teachers College. She was married in 1948, after which she moved to Virginia where she spent the rest of her life.

Miriam taught school in many locations in Virginia for almost 50 years.

Miriam was preceded in death by her husband Jesse M. Templeton, her sister Grace Elaine Orndorff Koch and her husband Herbert Benjamin Koch.

She is survived by her son, William M. Templeton and his wife Bonita I. Templeton; also four grandchildren, Amie Shields and her husband Kevin, Michael Harvey, Allison Reed and her husband Russell, Jeffrey Templeton and his wife Brandi; 11 great-grandchildren, Kortni, Ethan, Hannah, Madeline, Nathan, Landon, Emily, Hayden, Makenzie, Bradley, and Alexa. She is also survived by a niece Kevin Derring and her husband Robert as well as a great-niece Erin Koch Taylor and her husband Mike.

Miriam was active until the last three months of her life and lived a life dedicated to her family. She was a born-again Christian and member of Willow Baptist Mission. Hill and Wood Funeral Home will be assisting in a graveside service at Bethlehem Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 8, 2023, in Abilene, Va.
